Disbursement Services has revamped the email that announces reimbursements to address phishing and security concerns. These improvements are a direct result of feedback from the University community and will be effective on messages as of Friday, Nov. 3.
Effective October 9, Stephanie Kidd became the Payroll Manager. In this role, Stephanie oversees the day-to-day payroll operations and assists me with payroll initiatives while increasing overall customer service.

With the ARP increases (for EHRA permanent employees only) being paid in September and retro back to July using the September sources, there may be a need to adjust sources prior to September. The Payroll accounting Adjustment Tool has an “ARP re-distributions” reason to use for this purpose. This should help us track how many ARP related PAATs are being done.
Beginning in October, your paystub will have a new look that provides more information about earnings and deductions, which are frequently requested by employees. This new look will show hours itemized and all pay beyond base salary. Employer benefits will also be listed on the stub, along with before and after tax deductions and a summary on vacation and sick leave.
As some of you may know, we are working on a redesigned paystub, which will be implemented in October. Since it has been three years since the implementation of ConnectCarolina, the time is right to take advantage of system features that will give employees more useful information.
Due to the software bug, the retroactive portion covering the period of July 1 to July 23, 2017, had to be manually calculated. Departments are expected to review and validate payroll retroactive increase portion for SHRA non-exempt personnel for the August 18, 2017, paycheck. The increase amount should be $57.69.
Employees should no longer complete paper Federal and State Income Tax withholding forms (W-4 and NC-4 forms). New employees must complete their tax forms using the online forms available for viewing and updating on the Self-Service menu on the ConnectCarolina home page.
Effective July 3, Walter Miller will be the Director of Payroll Services. In addition to oversight of all payroll activities, Miller will be responsible for developing a strategic plan for payroll and ConnectCarolina.
