Top Issues

NEW! Month-End Close Deadlines: Validated campus journal entries and data collect batches (journal imports) should be received by Accounting Services by close of business (5 p.m.) on Tuesday, October 31st for October and Thursday, November 30 for November. Please remember that accounting will not receive the journal entries until the journal has been budget checked valid and has passed through all required approvals (including OSR, if necessary).

For details on month-end close procedures, see the Accounting Services webpage.  Bookmark this page to see the latest info in between updates.

NEW! Quick Reference Card for Creating a Deposit with the University Cashier: For business managers who need to make regular deposits to the cashier’s office, the Creating a Deposit guide will help answer standard business questions.  Some key features to the card include:

  • A submitted deposit can only be changed if the Cashier’s Office rejects the deposit.
  • On the Accounting Entries page, you can re-order and hide the chartfields by clicking the Personalize link.
  • Multiple small deposits should be combined into one deposit with multiple chartfield strings.
  • Review checks for signature, matching written and numeric amounts, and the department or UNC as the payee.
  • Do not include copies of cash or checks with the deposit.
  • Securely transmit the deposit to the Cashier’s Office. A drop box is available 24/7, and secure locked bags can be purchased.

NEW! Automated Payment Message Will Be Updated November 3: We are pleased to announce that the automated payment message generated by Disbursement Services has been revamped to address phishing and security concerns. These improvements are a direct result of feedback from the University community and will be effective on messages as of Friday, November 3.  See memo for details.

NEW!  VPN for Web Applications: Starting November 3, when working off campus, you’ll need to sign in to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) before accessing Customer Billing Management (CBM), Bill Presentation, Web Travel, PCard, and most other Web applications.  Read this VPN article for a list of all applications and for instructions on how to get VPN.

NEW! Changing Links: The links that take you to Web applications like Customer Billing Management (CBM) and Bill Presentation are changing. If you access these applications through ConnectCarolina, you won’t notice a change. If you’ve bookmarked these systems outside of ConnectCarolina, though, you will need to delete your bookmarks and recreate them. Read this CBM article for details on why the links are changing and which applications are affected.

REMINDER! Subscribing to Business Managers Listserv: Finance and accounting personnel who would like to subscribe to the business managers listserv can do so by following the instructions.
