You are receiving this message because you can create or update Independent Contractors in ConnectCarolina.
In order to streamline the Independent Contractor (IC) process, a new option for Foreign Independent Contractors has been added to the Independent Contractor workflow in ConnectCarolina. This new option ensures submission of information needed specifically for Foreign Independent Contractors and does not require SSN or TIN. The process for requesting foreign suppliers has not changed.
For Foreign Independent Contractor requests, there are 4 new document types that are required for Foreign ICs. These new attachment types will only be visible in the Foreign IC request workflow.
As with domestic IC requests, an email will be sent to the requestor with additional instructions once the Foreign IC has been approved.
In addition, a new field has been added to the search screen to allow Independent Contractors to be searched by the person that entered the request. This change was requested by several users to improve searching efficiency.
These changes are planned to go into production on September 9, 2022. All Foreign IC requests received through ic_review@unc.edu prior to 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022 will be reviewed through that process. All new Foreign IC requests should be submitted as an Independent Contractor request in ConnectCarolina.
