This memo is to alert you of a change in procedure that will affect SHRA Permanent biweekly paychecks beginning with B01 which pays on July 17, 2020. A notice containing the information below will be attached to the B26 paycheck which pays on July 2, 2020.

Formerly, biweekly regular pay was calculated each new fiscal year by taking an employee’s annual salary and dividing it by the number of workdays for the current fiscal year. Because the 26 biweekly payrolls cover a different time period than the University’s fiscal year, the rate had to be adjusted each year to account for 80 work hours, which typically represented 8 hours per day for 10 days.

Because of this, an SHRA employee’s biweekly paycheck could vary from year to year on their gross pay amount. To give an example, here is how the work hours differ from 2018-2021:

Work Hours By Fiscal Year
Fiscal Year Workdays Work Hours
2018-2019 260 2080
2019-2020 262 2096
2020-2021 261 2088

Beginning Fiscal Year 2020-21, the University will discontinue this process. Instead, a standard calculation will be used, each year’s work hours will be set at 2080 for consistency. This will result in the employees seeing a slight increase in their biweekly paychecks from the amount received in 2019-20 and give greater consistency in pay moving forward.
