As you may be aware, the United States Department of Labor (DOL) recently made a change to the regulations that govern overtime rules, also called the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  SHRA and EHRA employees whose salary is below the new threshold will change from Exempt to Non-Exempt in TIM.  HR has sent communications directly to the employees and their managers that are affected by this change.  If you have any questions about this change and those affected, please contact your school/division HR office.

TIM Changes you need to be aware of

Current SHRA and EHRA Exempt employees who are affected by the new FLSA salary threshold will change to Non-Exempt in the Upgraded TIM on Monday, Nov. 28.

EHRA non-exempt temporary employees are not currently in TIM.  They will be imported into the Upgraded TIM on Monday, Nov. 28

SHRA Employees

SHRA employees that change from exempt to non-exempt will continue to have a biweekly timecard, but they will need to enter their times in/out worked on a daily basis starting on Nov. 28.

New SHRA non-exempt employees will see times in/out columns for both weeks of the biweekly pay period in the timecard starting on Nov. 28 even though they are in an Exempt status the first week.

  • It is critical that no times in/out are entered in the first week of the timecard (11/21-11/27) to ensure they are not over paid.  The payroll system will automatically pay the employee as an Exempt in Week 1.
  • It is also critical that times in/out are entered in the second week of the timecard (11/28-12/4), because as a SHRA non-exempt, they will be paid for only the hours entered in the timecard in Week 2.

EHRA Employees

Permanent EHRA employees that change from exempt to non-exempt will continue to have a monthly timecard, but they will need to enter the amount of hours worked or leave taken on a daily basis in TIM starting on Nov. 28.

EHRA Temporary non-exempt employees will be imported into TIM on Nov. 28.  They will also have a monthly timecard and will need to enter the amount of hours worked on a daily basis in TIM starting on Nov. 28.

TIM Training Materials

SHRA non-exempt employee training materials, as well as, a new EHRA non-exempt Computer Based Training (CBT) and manual are posted on the TIM website under the Employee section, https://finance.unc.edu/services/tim/

Please ask all new non-exempt employees to review their CBT by Friday, Nov. 25.

A reference guide for Managers and TIM Administrators of EHRA Non-Exempt employees will be posted on the TIM website on Nov. 28.  Managers of new SHRA and EHRA non-exempt employees will be able to see them in TIM starting on Nov. 28.
