Biweekly checks to be issued March 13, 2009, as well as the monthly checks to be issued on March 31, 2009, will reflect the new tax tables provided by IRS. These new tables have been developed due to changes to the tax law made in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The IRS asked that employers begin using these tables in lieu of the applicable previously published tables as soon as possible, but no later than April 1, 2009.
Employees do not need to fill out a new Form W-4, although employees may choose to do so at any time; however, the new tables have been developed to apply to withholding for all employees and to take into account all current tax provisions. As usual, W-4 forms can be sent to Payroll Services, CB 1260.
Based on the annual salary of the employee and the number of exceptions claimed, there can be variation in the amount that an employee may see in their federal taxes being withheld.
