In order to continue protecting the University community and safeguarding its assets, the University is implementing a new background check requirement for independent contractors which will take effect July 1. A background check must be completed prior to the execution of a contract between the independent contractor and the University and services being performed.
Although more information will be shared as the process start date nears, the University will require a background check on all independent contractors who are doing business with the University for an assignment lasting in excess of seven (7) calendar days, involving a continuous relationship and/or involving access to sensitive populations or sensitive facilities/data.
Finance Division Policy 708, Independent Contractor, has been updated to reflect the planned start date of this initiative. An updated procedure detailing the steps required will be released shortly before July 1. Normal background check fees apply. If you have any questions or concern about the policy, please contact ic_review@unc.edu.
