As a reminder, beginning January 2024, Payroll Services implemented a change for prorating partial pay calculations on the monthly payroll. This change was implemented to create a consistency in calculations for biweekly and monthly payrolls.

This update means that employees who are hired, terminated, placed on/returned from short-work break, or transferred during the month will be paid based on the number of weekdays (Monday through Friday) during the partial month (workday methodology) rather than the number of calendar days in the month (calendar day methodology).

The Summer Salary Calculator has been updated to reflect the change to the weekday methodology.

See the original Partial Period Proration on Monthly Payroll memo for additional information. Contact payroll@unc.edu with any questions. Refer to the Partial Period Proration note in ConnectCarolina HR/Payroll Update: December 2023 for several examples of workday calculation versus calendar day calculation.

Also, a new Lump Sum ePAR went live last fall. Refer to the ConnectCarolina HR/Payroll Update: September 2023 for links to originator and approver training in Carolina Talent, which includes a Lump Sum Payment Reference Guide. The updated form incorporates separate fields for the Daily Rate and Number of Days Worked information.
