Steve Agostini, UNC Associate Vice Chancellor of Finance and Budget

We’ve just successfully closed out our fiscal year and it’s hard to believe that students will return to campus in a few weeks.  The Fall arrival has always been an exhilarating time of year, but this year’s return brings an extra sense of accomplishment, considering the challenges we’ve faced over the past 17 months. I’d like to take a moment to thank our teams for all their hard work to get campus ready for the year ahead.

I’m appreciative to everyone who came into the office during the period of remote work to provide much needed services to campus, including staff from Payroll, Accounting Services, Accounts Payable, P-Card Services, Cash Management and the Cashier’s Office.  Because of these individuals, checks, W-2s, and P-Cards were distributed in a timely manner and routine deposits were made on time.

In addition, I’m proud of our work on the budget, which consumed many hours planning and reviewing with business managers. F&B staff have done an outstanding job answering difficult questions and working towards solutions in a time where there are high expectations and challenges for the University.

Finally, I’m especially grateful for the Procurement team – together with the logistical help of Surplus – who provided excellent work in sourcing and distributing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for campus during the last year and in preparation for the student return.  In addition to their service to campus, they helped our department manage office and equipment moves over the summer as we consolidate space at the Administrative Offices Building.

A final congratulations to our Travel Team, who after two years of effort, have been given the go-ahead to successfully launch our new travel suite.  Read more about this in the In Focus column, where Rebecca Spanos talks about what kind of options this new platform will bring to campus.

Here’s to a great year!
