Graduate students who will be graduating at the end of the Spring Semester must be removed from the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program effective May 31, 2020.
To do this, go to GSHIP Enrollment (under the ConnectCarolina Student Admin GradStar Menu) and select the name of the student graduating. Change the Enrollment Status to “Pending Graduation.” In the Reason field, please indicate the date of 5/31/2020. Once you have made the changes, email Cash Management (cash_management@unc.edu) with your list of student names, PIDs and effective termination dates so that we can approve the update in ConnectCarolina.
Students who graduate in May 2020 are covered by the graduate insurance until May 31, 2020. Action to remove them from GSHIP must be done *NO LATER THAN Tuesday, May 26, 2020*.
Note: Typically, students who terminate from GSHIP on 5/31 are still eligible to enroll in the UNC Mandatory plan with a qualifying life event. BCBS will send out a blanket email to students who term 5/31/2020 with instructions on how they can enroll onto the Mandatory plan. Departments are encouraged to enter the termination in UNC’s system as soon as possible so the students have enough time to find other coverage. Students have 30 days from the last day of prior coverage to enroll in the UNC Mandatory plan.
Students who terminate from GSHIP earlier than 5/31/2020 may also be eligible to enroll in the UNC Mandatory plan, but they will need to contact Student Blue customer service for the UNC Mandatory plan to request an application based on their last day of coverage on GSHIP. Students have 30 days from the last day of prior coverage to enroll in the UNC Mandatory plan so it is important for students to confirm with BCBS their GSHIP termination and when they can enroll in UNC Mandatory Plan.
