I am pleased to announce that Martha Pendergrass has accepted a new role as special programs officer, effective Aug. 7.  In this newly-created role, she will report to Senior Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and University Treasurer Brian Smith. Martha will work on a variety of projects including, but not limited to, one that will enhance existing policies and guidelines on Associated Entities, performance management for the units within the Office of the Treasurer, and collaboration with the Tax Policy and Analysis office to advance documentation and policy development efforts.

Since 2001, Martha has shown great dedication in her duties as director of procurement services and has shepherded many major system implementations and transitions, including Web Travel, Central Airfare Billing System (CABS), the check request system, eProcurement and, most recently, ConnectCarolina Finance. Martha’s “cradle-to-grave” approach to procurement included streamlining and automating formerly manual processes, which greatly enhanced efficiency.

We thank Martha for these and other successful projects she has implemented and look forward to working with her in her new capacity.

We will begin the search for her successor as quickly as possible.  If you have procurement-related questions or concerns after Aug. 7, you may contact me at beauj@email.unc.edu or 919-962-8150.

Please join me in thanking Martha for her years of service in her current role and congratulating her on her new position.
