Sent on behalf of Campus Health Services:

The following information is being distributed to all Business Managers.  The purpose of this information is to assure all University Stakeholders have the most current information for RA/TA’s to waive out of the Mandatory Health Insurance (Student Blue). Please distribute this information to your group and department as necessary.

RA/TA Health Insurance and Waiving the Mandatory Student Blue Insurance

If your department employs a Research Assistant or Teaching Assistant (RA/TA) who is enrolled in the Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP), they need to be aware that they must waive out of the Student Blue using their GSHIP insurance information.  Unless they waive, Graduate students will be enrolled in both health insurance plans.

The fall waiver deadline is September 10, 2015! The spring deadline is January 31, 2016!

Important Notes

  • The UNC-Chapel Hill Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP) is a separate insurance plan from the UNC System Student Health Insurance Plan (Student Blue).  Graduate Students with RA/TA status are enrolled in GSHIP through their department program manager using InfoPorte.  Any questions regarding enrollment and termination of GSHIP should be directed to cash_management@unc.edu .
  • Students with the GSHIP Plan can only WAIVE out of Student Blue by submitting an online waiver using their UNC-Chapel Hill GSHIP policy information at www.bcbsnc.com/unc  for verification. An approved waiver is required for each semester. Without an approved waiver, all students will be responsible for paying the Student Health Insurance Premium of $863.50.
  • Enrollment in the fall 2015 Student Blue plan is automatic on September 10, 2015, unless the student has an approved fall waiver. Continued emails from BCBS are an indication that your Graduate student has not submitted or completed a waiver.
  • Department program managers also cancel the GSHIP insurance. Please advise your RA/TA’s of the date their insurance terminates.

If you have a RA/TA that will be a late GSHIP enrollee you can contact Campus Health Services (919-966-6550 or 919-966-6599) and we may be able to assist with waivers for these students.

Additional information is available online at Campus Health Services or by contacting BCBS at email@studentbluenc.com or calling 888-351-8283.
