From: Stephen J. Agostini, Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Budget

I am pleased to announce that Sheri Olson has moved into a newly created position for the University, as the Director of Financial Data Analytics and Reporting, effective Monday, Nov. 15, 2021.

In her new role, Sheri will develop and support financial systems and processes critical to the Division of Finance and Budget, including strategic planning, capital planning, and operational budget forecasting. Charged with creating a new Office of Financial Data Analytics and Reporting, Sheri will report directly to me and assist campus leadership.  Working alongside Information Technology Services (ITS), Sheri’s team will create a roadmap for technology and analytic tools necessary for the University’s budget and planning needs. This includes providing critical assistance in data analytics and financial modeling, developing templates, dashboards and long-range financial models for the division.  Her team will develop standardize data for effective and consistent finance and budget reporting throughout campus and for the UNC System, as well as lead the development and implementation of reporting and data warehouse capabilities, using existing tools and acquiring new systems to achieve the University’s evolving financial objectives.

Sheri began her career at UNC-Chapel Hill as a senior business analyst for Finance and ITS before moving to Financial Reporting in December 2016, where she served as a senior financial reporting and planning data analyst.  Here, she created subsystem reconciliations to ensure all data had been processed; created financial data feeds for the UNC System Office’s Financial Data Mart project; created data extracts and reports for the University’s reporting in IPEDS, ITF, and Delaware study; implemented new reporting tools and created financial reports for annual and monthly reporting; and created and implemented a comprehensive budget template for the University.

Before arriving at Carolina, Sheri worked in various data analyst positions, including with the United Health Group of Wisconsin, served as Assistant Controller for the University of Wisconsin – Stout and was a financial systems manager for Falls of Neuse Management, LLC.

I want to thank the following individuals who served on the search committee for this position:

  • Manali Bettendorf, University Controller and Executive Director for Enterprise Financial Accounting (Chair)
  • Beau Jimmerson, Chief Procurement Officer & Executive Director of Operations
  • Michael Barker, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer

Please join me in welcoming Sheri to her new role.
