Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Budget

Steve Agostini, UNC Associate Vice Chancellor for Finance and Budget

The past eight months at Carolina have been full of meetings and motion – I immediately understood that there is a lot to be done! While we are taking care of day-to-day business, it can be challenging to think about the bigger picture and future plans for Finance and Budget. What is our end goal?  How will we know when we get there? Vice Chancellor Jonathan Pruitt shared a vision for all of Finance and Operations in the recent On The Go newsletter. If you haven’t already, I urge you to read it. The vision includes leading the stewardship of University resources to contribute to student and taxpayer affordability and the University’s long-term sustainability in support of the strategic plan. He also shared three division priorities in support of this statement: generate operational achievement and success, enhance campus risk management and improve financial performance and success.

The other associate vice chancellors and I are working to identify three to five goals that support each division-wide priority and to determine how we can measure success. Our department leaders are having conversations with me and each other about our next steps forward. We are building internal processes and finding our place under the broader vision.

One goal that is close to completion is the hiring of a controller.  We anticipate a mid-October start date for the chosen candidate. Look for a formal announcement in the next week!

Thank you for your daily commitment and your openness to new visions.
