What is a typical day like in your job?
In order to accept payment cards on campus, the University must maintain the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, which I oversee. In addition, I review merchant requests as a member of the University’s Compliant Electronic Receipt Transactions through Innovation and Financial Integrity (CERTIFI) committee. A typical day includes meeting with campus departments to discuss becoming a merchant, reviewing data flow diagrams, attestations of compliance, learning about the technical aspects of hardware and software used to accept payment cards, and asking lots of questions. However, the most important part of my job is interacting with my department customers. Ensuring they have the tools they need to successfully maintain and navigate PCI compliance is my main priority.
How does your job support Carolina’s mission?
As Merchant Manager, I support the University’s mission and brand by ensuring we contract with vendors who protect our customers’ personal financial data. I help campus customers navigate the regulatory complexities of PCI compliance.
