Procurement Services has established contracts with each of the following airlines to offer a percentage discount on UNC-CH business airfare costs:

  • American Airlines
  • Delta Airlines
  • United Airlines

Each of the University-authorized travel agencies have included the discounted airfare rates in their reservation system and are ready to extend the discount on all future reservations. The discount percentages vary based upon routes and class of service. The travel agencies have all the guidelines and will ensure that any trip that qualifies will be given the discount. In addition, the agencies will compare all available flights for your trip so that you can decide which route and flight meets your business needs.

Why use an authorized agency?

  • Airline tickets are direct billed to the University.
  • Changes to your itinerary are streamlined. The travel agency is your advocate to help you make changes to your trip and navigate airfare rules and regulations.
  • Weekend or overnight help is available. The agency has 24×7 support. Check your itinerary for the agency phone number and access code for assistance.
  • Using an agency enables future University-wide airfare discounts. While you may save a few dollars by booking on your own, doing so prevents the University from tracking that purchase. By centralizing our travel purchasing with authorized travel agencies, the University (and the airlines) can use this information to negotiate future discounts, which benefit everyone, including you.

Have questions? We’ve got answers!

Q: Can I get this same discount if I call the airline directly?
A: Unfortunately, no. These discounts are only available through the University-authorized travel agencies.

Q: I just purchased a ticket. Do I qualify for a refund?
A: If you purchased the ticket from one of the authorized travel agencies, please call your agent for advice. Due to the airline exchange fees, the cost to reissue the ticket may exceed the discount.

Q: Will I see the University discount on the airline website?
A: No, these rates are only available through the authorized travel agents.

Q: Am I required to accept a Basic Economy reservation?
A: No, it is not required. Typically, this fare type is highly restricted (no seat assignment, no baggage) and is 100% non-refundable and non-changeable. Therefore, it is recommended that you compare against a fare type that allows flexibility to change or cancel your trip as your business needs may change. Make the choice that is best for your department budget.
