Steve Agostini

Stephen “Steve” Agostini was named the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s associate vice chancellor for finance and budget, starting Monday, Jan. 14. Agostini comes to Carolina with a wealth of experience in federal and local government financial leadership, most recently having served as CFO and director of the Department of Management and Finance for the Arlington, Virginia, county government.

In his role as leader of the finance department, Agostini will serve as a key strategic advisor to division leadership on financial issues and will provide institutional oversight of the University’s financial, budget and accounting operations. Agostini will work in close collaboration with campus senior leaders such as UNC Health Care Administration, the UNC System Office, the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost (OEVC&P), and the greater campus community, in strategic management of the University’s financial resources.

Prior to his work in Arlington County, Agostini’s experience includes serving as CFO for three U.S. federal agencies: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Economics and Statistics Administration. He also served as a financial and budget official for a number of sizeable local governments, including the City of Philadelphia, Milwaukee County, the City of San Francisco and the City of Milwaukee.

Agostini earned his master’s degree in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley, and his bachelor of arts in government at Harvard University.
