Muneeb RaqeebiHow does Budget, Planning and Analysis support Carolina’s mission?

At Budget, Planning and Analysis (BP&A), we provide sound financial data and analysis to support Carolina’s mission of Teaching, Research, and Public Service. On a day to day basis, our office conducts high-quality financial analysis for university leadership to ensure optimum use of available resources and support long-term university planning. Additionally, BP&A also plays a pivotal role in management of the University’s State and Facilities and Administrative (F&A) funds.

What’s a typical day like in your job?

As a Financial Analyst, my day at BP&A starts and ends with numbers. From responding to e-mail inquiries to developing reports and other analytical resources, my daily work revolves around numbers and working with spreadsheets and databases. On any given day, my job requires the extraction of data from our financial systems and putting that data into the best possible use to support executive decision-making. We also collaborate with other departments within Finance and Operations to discuss short-term and long-term projects.

What is your personal history with Carolina?

I am relatively new at Carolina. I started working for BP&A in February 2018. My wife and I decided to move here after she was accepted into the residency program at UNC Hospitals. Before coming here, I worked as a Financial Analyst for UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL where I also completed my graduate studies in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Public Administration (MPA) programs.

What do you like most about your work?

There are two things that I like most about my work. The work aspect, which is what I do on a daily basis and which is what keeps me focused and gives me a sense of responsibility to achieve my goals in an accurate and timely manner. As a financial analyst, most of the things that I do are analytical and non-repetitive and therefore, they bring along new problems and challenges which need solutions. The problem-solving part gives me a great satisfaction. Then, there is the human aspect of my work. My team. I have got amazing people around me at BP&A who trusted my abilities and not only made it easier for me to start here but also supported my wife and I to settle in the Chapel Hill area.

What is something people don’t know about you?

My wife and I recently welcomed our first child, Lemar Raqeebi. He was born in September 2018. He is what keeps us busy when we are at home and we love every moment that we spend with him.
