Date:  April 27, 2015

It is with mixed emotions that I write to let you know that University Controller Dennis Press has announced that he plans to retire from his position, effective July 1, 2015.  That will conclude an impressive career of more than 39 years of State service — and almost 22 years in the position of University Controller at UNC-CH.

The University has benefitted tremendously from Dennis’s institutional knowledge, his conscientious approach to his work and his amazing dedication to the University’s values.  He has shepherded many changes during his tenure here, most recently by demonstrating his breadth of knowledge through his contributions to the Finance and HR/Payroll ConnectCarolina implementation.  He also has been a key sponsor of many prior system implementations that have resulted in efficiencies and fiscal integrity, including TIM.  Dennis is also responsible for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the University.  For the past 20 years, the University’s Annual Report has received the coveted Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

Dennis’s commitment to maintaining sound financial records and safeguarding the University’s fiscal integrity are evident in his day-to-day work. He leads by example and ensures that the charge to adhere to federal, state and system-level requirements is not only met but exceeded.

Please join me in wishing Dennis the best.
