Graduate students that will be graduating at the end of Fall Semester 2014 in December must be removed from the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP) effective Dec. 31, 2014. To do this, go to GSHIP Enrollment (ConnectCarolina>Student Admin>GradStar Menu) and select the student graduating. Change the Enrollment Status to “Pending Graduation.” In the reason, please indicate the date of 12/31/2014. Once you have made the changes, email Deon Hallback (dhallbac@email.unc.edu) your list of students with effective termination dates, so that he can approve the update in ConnectCarolina.
The students who graduate in December are covered by the graduate insurance until Dec. 31, 2014. These changes must be done *NO LATER THAN Monday, Jan. 5, 2015*. Once a student has graduated, they are no longer eligible for the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program. Blue Cross Blue Shield will notify each student by letter informing him/her of this.
Please remember that effective July 31, 2014, COBRA is no longer offered as part of GSHIP. All students terminating their insurance will need to obtain outside insurance once their coverage with GSHIP ends.
