As communicated in April, the University is implementing a new background check requirement for independent contractors which will take effect July 1.
A background check must be completed prior to the execution of a contract between the independent contractor and the University and services being performed.
As detailed in the content and Frequently Asked Questions section of the updated Finance Division Procedure 708.1, Independent Contractor Predetermination Process, the University will require a background check on all independent contractors who are doing business with the University for an assignment:
- lasting in excess of seven (7) calendar days (either consecutive days or intermittent over an extended period of time); and/or
- involving a continuous relationship with UNC-CH; and/or
- involving access to sensitive populations or sensitive facilities/data.
Finance Division Policy 708, Independent Contractor, also has been updated to reflect this initiative. Normal background check fees apply. If you have any questions or concern about the policy, please contact ic_review@unc.edu.
