On April 1, 2012, the University will launch an equipment maintenance program as part of the continuing Carolina Counts initiatives towards achieving greater efficiencies and driving down procurement costs.
The University has contracted with Specialty Underwriters and the Remi Group to implement a University-wide Equipment Maintenance Management Program (EMMP). Programs of this nature have produced savings from 15 to 25 percent and facilitated better management of the service life of covered equipment. Given the University’s current maintenance contracts, the savings potential is $1,000,000.
I request your assistance in implementing this program allowing the University to realize the full potential savings and administrative efficiencies. This program is for out-of-warranty equipment currently covered by a maintenance agreement and allows departments to retain their current service provider or select an alternative vendor.
Over the next month Procurement Services will be contacting each department to arrange an introduction to the program and an analysis of the department specific cost savings available.
If you have concerns or questions, contact Martha J. Pendergrass, Director of Procurement Services at martha_pendergrass@unc.edu.
Thank you for your continued support of the University’s efforts to reduce cost and increase efficiency.
